Mixing is about getting the instruments or vocals to work together in a track. More specifically it's the process of cleaning and adjusting each track to fit together (not drowning or overshining eachother). This makes a stereo mixdown file.
What is mastering?Â
When the stereo mixdown is mastered, the file is compressed to correct the dynamic ranges of the track (keeping signals in check while bringing up quieter parts. Stereo enhancement, Loudness, and sample rate conversion are all done to ensure your track is presentable on multiple devices and platforms.
